The CELPIP Writing Test measures your ability to communicate effectively in written English in everyday Canadian situations. There are two tasks: writing a formal or informal email, and responding to survey questions in paragraph form.
You have 53 minutes total — 27 minutes for Task 1 (Email) and 26 minutes for Task 2 (Survey Response). Both tasks are typed on a computer. Your writing is scored by trained raters on four criteria: Task Fulfillment, Coherence & Cohesion, Vocabulary, and Sentence Structure.
There is no handwriting involved. However, spelling and punctuation still matter significantly. Understanding exactly what each task requires — and having a clear template for each — is the most effective preparation strategy.
