The CELPIP Speaking Test assesses your ability to communicate effectively in everyday English situations. You will complete 8 tasks covering a range of real-life scenarios such as giving advice, describing scenes, making predictions, comparing options, dealing with difficult situations, and expressing opinions.
The entire speaking section takes approximately 15–20 minutes. Each task provides a short preparation time (30–60 seconds) and a fixed response time (60–90 seconds). Your responses are recorded and scored by trained raters on four criteria: Coherence, Vocabulary, Listenability, and Task Fulfilment.
There is no live examiner — you speak into a microphone at a computer. This makes deliberate practice under timed conditions essential. Understanding the format and expectations of each task before test day is the most important step in your preparation.
