CELPIP Reading Test Overview

The Reading Test assesses your ability to comprehend various written materials encountered in everyday life, social situations, and the workplace. Key Skills Tested: - Understanding emails, charts, personal and professional correspondence, and brief informative texts. - Identifying and interpreting different viewpoints presented in short passages. - Demonstrating overall reading proficiency across multiple types of content. Test Structure: - The test consists of four sections. - Each section includes short to moderately lengthy texts followed by multiple-choice questions. - Some questions may require you to respond to a reply or response to the original text. - Questions appear in a drop-down format, and you select answers using the computer mouse. Scoring: - Your score is computer-generated. - Each answer is evaluated as correct or incorrect. Reading Test Format: All questions that may appear on the Reading Test are multiple choice. There are four different styles: 1) Sentence-Completion Questions - Choose among four ways of completing a single sentence. 2) Test-Completion Questions - Fill in the blanks in a test by selecting from four multiple-choice answers. 3) WH Questions - Answer questions that begin with words like what, when, where, and why. 4) Matching Questions - Match a statement to one of four paragraphs, identified as A, B, C, and D. - If the statement does not match any paragraph, choose E. - This style appears in Reading Part 3 only. Reading Parts Description: - Reading for Information (1 reading) - Read a text and identify which paragraph (if any) supports each statement. - Suggested time: 9–10 minutes - Reading for Viewpoints (2 readings) - First, read an opinion report and answer 5 questions. - Then read a response and fill in 5 blanks by selecting the best choice. - Suggested time: 10–13 minutes - Unscored Items - Unknown purpose - Suggested time: 8–11 or 9–13 minutes
