CELPIP Listening Test Overview

The CELPIP Listening Test assesses your ability to understand spoken English in everyday Canadian situations. You will complete 6 parts covering a range of real-life audio scenarios — problem-solving conversations, daily life dialogues, information messages, news reports, discussions, and opinion monologues.

The entire listening section takes approximately 47–55 minutes. Each part plays an audio recording once only — you cannot replay it. Questions are multiple-choice and test your ability to identify main ideas, specific details, speaker opinions, implied meanings, and the purpose of the communication.

There is no live conversation — you listen through headphones at a computer. This makes focused, active listening practice under realistic conditions absolutely essential. Understanding the format and question types of each part before test day is the most critical step in your preparation.
